Moonscoop was officially co-founded in 2003 by brothers Christophe and Benoit di Sabatino after the merger of France Animation and Antefilms Production. However, the company can trace its history back to 1990 when the di Sabatino brothers co-founded Antefilms Production, combining their shared passion for animation and entertainment, as well as their entrepreneurial acumen. Christophe and Benoit di Sabatino continue to serve as co-executive chairmen, together guiding the future direction of Moonscoop, now one of the world’s leading independent animation producers.
In 2005, the di Sabatinos made a bold move to further the company’s international expansion, acquiring a majority stake in Mike Young Productions (now known as Moonscoop US), the leading independent animation producer in the USA, located in Los Angeles. This acquisition also included the assets of Taffy Entertainment (now also known as Moonscoop US), a rapidly growing worldwide distribution, brand management and entertainment company. In 2009, Taffy Entertainment took on the Moonscoop name and it continues to represent the company’s brands worldwide, in addition to third-party properties from some of the largest producers worldwide.
In 2006, Moonscoop also acquired a 60% stake in LuxAnimation, a leading player in the international animation market. Later that year, the Caisse des Dépôts, a state-owned financial institution in France, bought stock in Moonscoop.
Firmly established as a top producer and distributor of quality animated programming, the company then turned its sights on the future of entertainment – new media. In 2006, Moonscoop acquired a majority stake in Queen Bee (now known as Moonscoop Digital Media), a leading technology company focused on adapting programming for new media platforms such as IPTV, Mobile and Video On Demand (VOD). Soon after the acquisition of Moonscoop Digital Media, Moonscoop launched two new multi-platform channels targeted to kids and teens: Kabillion in the US (with Comcast Cable) and Taffy Kids in Europe.
While the vast majority of the company’s programming continues to air on traditional broadcast channels worldwide, Moonscoop has also positioned itself for the future, and can easily adapt its programming to all formats now and for the foreseeable future.
